The International Moving Image Cultures Conference (IMOVICCON)
IMOVICCON is a biennial academic conference that serves as a platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore and discuss the ever-evolving landscape of moving image cultures. The conference was initiated through a collaboration between the Film & Animation Program at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) and the Visual Communication Design Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). First held in 2019, IMOVICCON has since become a space for in-depth discussions on the intersections of visual media, digital technology, and society.
This year, in 2025, IMOVICCON returns with Universitas Pelita Harahan (UPH) as the host institution and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) as the co-host.
“The Cultural Shift From Moving Image to Image Moving”
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the boundary between moving images—traditional audiovisual media such as film, television, and animation—and image moving—dynamic, interactive visuals circulating across digital platforms, AI-generated imagery, and social media-driven narratives—is becoming increasingly blurred.
IMOVICCON 2025 seeks to explore this ongoing cultural shift by critically examining how visual storytelling, media consumption, and creative production are being reshaped in response to technological advancements and social transformations.
This year’s theme invites scholars, practitioners, and industry professionals to investigate the transition from conventional moving images toward a more fluid, adaptive, and participatory image culture within the digital ecosystem. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, the conference aims to unpack the historical, technological, and socio-cultural implications of this visual evolution.
